You buy a Vitamin C serum because you want your skin to look brighter.
You use it every morning. You wait a few weeks. Then a few more.
But your skin still looks dull, and that uneven tone is not going anywhere.
So now you are thinking one of two things.
Either Vitamin C does not work, or your skin is just being difficult.
I want you to stop blaming your skin for a minute.
The problem may be sitting inside the bottle.
Vitamin C does not like air or light
Vitamin C can do beautiful things for the appearance of your skin, but it is also a very sensitive ingredient.
Once certain forms of Vitamin C are exposed to air and light, they can start breaking down. Every time you open the bottle, more air can get inside. If the bottle sits near a sunny window or stays open for months, the ingredient may become less useful over time.
That means a serum can have “Vitamin C” printed across the front and still not be giving your skin what you think it is.
That is the part nobody tells you when you are standing in the skincare aisle.
Having Vitamin C in the bottle and getting Vitamin C to your skin are not always the same thing.
That is the aha moment.
The name on the label is only the beginning. The source, formula, packaging, age of the product, and how you store it can all matter.
Your skin may not be the problem
I have watched people use the same serum for months, see no change, and decide they need something stronger.
Then they buy another product.
And another one.
Before long, the bathroom shelf is full, but their skin still looks the same.
That does not always mean they need more skincare.
Sometimes it means the product they are using is no longer giving them much.
Pay attention to your serum. Has it been open for months? Has the color become much darker? Does it smell different from when you first opened it? Has it been sitting in bright light?
Those changes can be signs that the product is not the same as it was when you bought it.
And no, using more of it does not bring it back to life.
The video call that made me look at my own skin
I learned this lesson while I was busy helping everybody else.
I was on a video call with a client, talking about what she needed to pay attention to, when I saw my own face clearly on the screen.
Real daylight will tell on you.
My skin looked tired. It looked dull, and the tone did not look as even as I wanted it to.
Then my client asked whether I followed the same advice I gave everyone else.
I had to be honest.
Not as consistently as I should have.
I spend so much time looking at other people’s skin, hair, and whole health picture that I had stopped paying close attention to my own.
That moment made me go back and look at what my skin was actually getting every morning.
I did not want another product with Vitamin C written on the label.
I wanted a source that made sense for the kind of skin support I was looking for.
Why I started looking at Kakadu Plum
That search led me to Kakadu Plum.
Kakadu Plum naturally contains a very high amount of Vitamin C. It is often said to contain up to 100 times more Vitamin C than an orange.
That got my attention.
But I was not interested in using an ingredient just because it sounded impressive.
I wanted to know what it could help me create.
I wanted a morning serum for skin that looked tired, dull, or uneven. I wanted something simple that could help the skin look brighter and more refreshed without turning the morning routine into a full-time job.
That is why I created Brighter Days.
Brighter Days is the Vitamin C serum I wanted when I finally started paying attention to my own skin again.
I started using it every morning after cleansing. I did not replace everything else on my shelf. I did not create a ten-step routine.
I used one product consistently.
A few weeks later, the same client who had called me out told me that my skin looked brighter.
She noticed before I did.
And that taught me something else.
Sometimes the first change is not dramatic. You may not wake up one morning looking like a completely different person.
Your skin may simply start looking more awake.
More refreshed.
More like you have been taking care of it.
Before you buy another Vitamin C serum
Do not just ask, “Does it have Vitamin C?”
Ask better questions.
How has it been packaged? How long has it been open? Has the color or smell changed? Are you storing it away from heat and strong light? Are you using it consistently?
Most importantly, is your skin showing you that the product is doing anything?
Because your skincare should not live on promises printed on a bottle.
It should give your skin a reason to look different.
If your skin has been looking tired, dull, or uneven lately, look at it in real daylight. Pay attention to what it is showing you.
You may not need five more products.
You may need one product that is still strong enough to do its job.
That is why I created Brighter Days.
